Today, Prince Charles and Camilla will continue their four day trip to Ireland and will visit Mullaghmore, the place where the attack in 1979 took place.
The prince was speaking of the huge loss his family experienced when they heard that his great-uncle Lord Mountbatten had been killed in an IRA attack.
In a speech to a crowd in Sligo town Charles stated:
“At the time I could not imagine how we would come to terms with the anguish of
such a deep loss. For me, Lord Mountbatten represented the grandfather I never had”
The prince went on to say that “the foundations of all we held dear in life had been torn apart”.
