The Lord Mayor of Dublin Micheál Mac Donncha narrowly avoided detention and expulsion by Israeli authorities when he landed at Ben Gurion Airport in the country.

Cllr Mac Donncha was able enter Israel and carry on with his planned visit to the West Bank after officials at the Tel Aviv airport let him slip by after they were given a misspelling of his name.

The Palestinian Authority invited Mac Donncha and several other speakers to discuss the status of Jerusalem which the U.S and other recognised as the capital of Israel, which has enraged the Palestinians who want the city dived between themselves and the Israelis.

Dublin County Council has passed two anti-Israel resolutions recently one calling for the expulsion of Israel’s ambassador to Ireland after several Gazans were killed by the Israeli military during protests. They also voted to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement aimed at Israel.
