Prone to sunburn? New wristband will save you the misery

Prone to sunburn? Afraid to step out from under the safety of the giant parasol to dip your toes in the sea?  If you answered yes, then this new gadget is just for you.

A new ‘sunburn indicator’ wristband will soon be widely available to purchase.

According to its inventor, Dr. David Hazafy of Queen’s University Belfast, the wristband measures sun exposure, steadily changing colour as time in the sun elapses, and giving advance warning to seek shelter in the shade to prevent skin damage.

The device itself is a blue plastic strip worn as a bracelet. The blue colour fades away gradually at a speed that depends on the person’s skin type.

Its inventor says that  “On the side of the band there will be a colour code so you know how much time you have left before getting out of the sun.”

He added that the band works with a sort of “smart ink” that reacts to UV light from the sun, gradually breaking down the blue dye.

And the best part of it all is that the band will cost only around €5-€7.

Don’t forget to wear it on your next holiday.
