Proposal for 1916 commemoration bank holiday officially turned down in the Dail

Sinn Féin’s proposal for a public holiday next year for the 1916 anniversary commemorations has been rejected in the Dáil chamber today.

The proposal was for a public holiday named ‘Lá na Poblachta’ to take place on April 24, 2016, and every year on the same date thereafter.

However, such proposal has been voted down by 82 votes to 37.
