Proposals are afoot to ban cars and taxis from large areas of Dublin city centre

dublin

There are currently a number of far-reaching proposals to make the capital a more attractive and pedestrian-friendly place.

Under these proposals, unveiled today by Dublin City Council and the National Transport Authority, private cars and taxis would be banned from entering certain areas of the city centre, to encourage people to use public transport, cycle, and walk.

The proposals include a total of cars and taxis at College Green, which would in theory become a public plaza served by Luas trams and buses. The area would also be redesigned, with a cycleway and wide pedestrian streets being proposed.

Also, private cars would be banned from Bachelor’s Walk and possibly George’s Quay. Suffolk St. and St. Stephen’s Green North would be pedestrianised.

The plans is schedule to run until 2023 and €150m would be allocated for the upgrades.
