Proud day to be Irish: New tomb discovered near Newgrange believed to be around 5,500 years old

County Meath already boasts an impressive array of ancient sites and now another discovery of what is believed to a Megalithic tomb has been made at the Brú na Bóinne World Heritage Site RTE reports.

The area that is packed with archaeological sites dating back well over 5,000 years and is most well-known for the Newgrange Passage Tomb, which captures the rising sun and illuminates its interior passage leading to the central burial chamber at sunrise every Winter’s Solstice.

The new discovery of another passage tomb which thought is thought to be around 5,500 years old, a millennia and a half older than the Great Pyramid of Giza, was made by UCD’s School of Archaeology working in partnership with Devenish Agri-technology company.
