The Deputy Chief Constable of the PSNI Drew Harris has been officially named as the new Garda Comissioner it has been announced.
Mr Harris who has vowed to protect the vulnerable in Irish society will take the position for the next five years after an international selection.
The news of Mr Harris’s appointment was welcomed by the Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan, who said the appointment comes as major reforms will be made in the An Garda siochana.
It is expected Mr Harris will begin his new role in the coming months ahead.
