RTE have decided to give the Eurovision mentor system the boot in an attempt to finally win the song contest once again.

RTE have now decided to change the way acts are chosen. Before five music industry experts picked which acts were then put to a public vote.

In recent years Jedward have been one of our most successful acts after they came eighth in 2011.

The RTE judging panel are allowing the public to submit any entry, which will be considered and short listed.

Until the end of the month singers and songwriters from all across Ireland are allowed enter any song as long as it is no more than three minutes long.

It is believed that the public will still pick the final song on The Hit, hosted by Nicky Byrne.

Last year’s Eurovision winner was Conchita Wurst and because of that the 60th anniversary of the competition will be held in Vienna, Austria on May 23.
