Public outrage after 38-yr-old man died en route to Cork hospital, as there were no emergency cardiac services available in Waterford

There’s a public outpouring of anger, outrage and disbelief today after news broke of a 38-year-old man tragically died after suffering a heart attack in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford.

He was able to drive himself to Waterford Hospital, but had to be sent on to Cork, as there are no emergency cardiac services in Waterford over the weekend.

The man entered into cardiac arrest half way to Cork and died on the road.

There has been a great deal of controversy about cardiac services at Waterford Hospital in recent times.

Local TD John Halligan promised to deliver a second cardiac unit at the facility, but failed in his bid.
