Hundreds more have been injured in what is one the deadliest bombings of the Afghan war which has raged since the U.S led coalition over through the Taliban regime in 2001, following the attacks of September 11th, 2001.
Kabul has been blighted by terror attacks from the radical Islamist group, the Taliban, for years, but this campaign has recently been amplified.
In the past week gunmen attacked the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, which is popular with foreigners, killing 22 before all eight terrorists were themselves killed by security forces.
The whole of Afghanistan has seen a rise in violence which is not only fuelled by a resurgent Taliban but also the emergence of a syndicate of the Islamic State which is at war with not only the western coalition and Afghan government but also the Taliban.
