Race for Fine Gael leadership heats up as three more Government Ministers throw their hat in the ring

The race for the leadership of the Fine Gael leadership is heating up by the day and now it seems three more Government ministers have thrown their hat in the ring to succeed current leader Enda Kenny should he step down.

According to reports the trio of Richard Bruton, Frances Fitzgerald and Simon Harris – have yet to declare themselves out of the race to become the next party leader.

The contest announcement comes after both the Social Protection Minister Leo Varadkar and the Housing Minister Simon Coveney declared they would take over if Enda Kenny gives his departure date.

The long standing issue which has arisen since the Maurice McCabe fiasco will take another turn this Wednesday when the Taoiseach will address a Fine Gael Parliamentary Party meeting on his future.

There has been growing unrest amongst the Fine Gael party in recent weeks after a number of TDs revealed they had no confidence in Mr Kenny’s leadership.
