Rampant Ireland blow Italy away to get their Six Nations campaign back on track




A rampant Ireland team put their Murrayfield misery behind the by trashing Italy 63-10 in Rome this afternoon.

In a must win game for Ireland, Joe Schmidt’s men came roaring back into championship contention by scoring nine tries at the Stadio Olympico.

The stars of the show CJ Standar and Craig Gilroy scored a hat-trick of tries a piece to give Ireland a comprehensive victory over a Italian side. Ireland started the game with blistering pace and got on the board in the 12th minute when Keith Earls touched down in the corner.

Things got much better for Ireland on the 18th minute when CJ Standar kicked off his man of the match performance when he scored a superb try after excellent build up play on the left hand side.

Earls added a second on the 27th minute, before Ireland’s only mishap came when they gave away a penalty try in the 32nd minute.

Ireland however regained their composure in the second half and produced a blistering performance that seen Standar and Ringrose adding one each, along with a Gilroy hat trick.

Ireland now head into crunch game with France in two weeks time, with their championship hope still alive.
