All schools across the country will officially close if Met Eireann issue a Red status weather warning in the coming days, a leading Government Minister has confirmed.
Speaking on RTE’S Morning Ireland programme the Minister For Housing Eoghan Murphy confirmed the Government will actively impose closures if the weather situation worsens.
It is believed the announcement comes as the country is set to be hit with heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures overnight.
Although Met Eireann have issued an Orange weather warning, the national forecaster say the status could be upgraded if weather conditions significantly worsen.
Speaking on RTE earlier today Minister Murphy said the school closures would be implemented in order to prevent any potential accidents given the expected weather conditions.
