Today is finally referendum day. The country goes to the polls to see whether we will repeal or save the Eighth Amendment.
Currently the Eighth Amendment is the only protection unborn Irish babies have from abortion. If yes wins, abortion will be permissible for any reason whatsoever up to 12 weeks and up to 6 months on mental health grounds.
It’s understood that both sides have internal polling done but have not released their results.
Polls opened across the country this morning at 7am until 10pm tonight. People are reminded that they must mark X in the box on their ballot paper.
