A restaurant in Washington DC has been fined $7,000 (just over €6,000) after they asked a transgender woman to shower ID prior to using a bathroom at their restaurant.
It’s been reported Stateside that staff then following the transgender woman into the bathroom and told her to leave but the transgender woman refused to get out of the female bathroom.
Transgender woman Charlotte Clymer claims that the restaurant’s manager mocked her and cited a nonexistent law claiming that a person must have ‘female’ on their ID before using a women’s restroom.
According to the Metro, Charlotte Clymer released an interview shortly after this allegedly happened and it went viral after CNN picked it up. The restaurant in question received much backlash on social media while it apologised and announced it retrained its staff.
