Revenue and Customs seize 600,000 cigarettes at Dublin Port

It has been reported that officers from Revenue and Customs have seized around 600,000 cigarettes with a reported retail value of €304,000 at Dublin Port.

It is understood that the cigarettes were mostly the Malboro brand were discovered when officers examined a large wooden crate, which had arrived from the Far East. It is believed that the documentation claimed that the crate contained safety footwear, but when the crate was a examined it contained cigarettes hidden underneath a layer of shoes.

Revenue and Customs officers say  investigations are currently ongoing with a view to referring a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions. The also say the seizures were part of an ongoing operation targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes.
