Residents in the Phisborough area of Dublin are living under constant threat by a marauding army of rats besieging their homes.
The residents say that nearby Luas works and illegal dumping in the area are the reasons for the rats’ presence.
Locals claim to have seen up to 50 rats in their backywards, foraging for food, scratching, squeaking, and being a nuisance.
Residents say that the problem has become so bad that they cannot leave any of their windows open or allow children to play outside.
Dublin City Council are taking an active role in the issue, and have released a statement saying that a number of measures to help alleviate the problem have been taken, such as frequent inspections, compliance surveys to ensure households dispose of rubbish responsibly, and searches of dumped bags to identify the culprits.
