According to recent developments disqualified drivers will be soon named and shamed under new plans drawn up by the Road Safety Authority.

The new system which will reportedly help the Gardaí identify motorists who are currently disqualified. The new plan will apparently come into effect next year and the RSA have warned that anyone who is disqualified from driving can expect to see their details published.

It is understood the new plan comes after growing concerns over the current conviction rates for drink-driving offences. Meanwhile Moyagh Murdock, the chief executive of the Road Safety Authority (RSA), has said the plans for printing the names of disqualified drivers would act as a deterrent. Ms Moyagh further explained: “We want to see a societal change, a cultural change in people’s attitudes,” she said.”It is very unacceptable now to drink and drive but there still seems to be a societal acceptability to drive when you have been disqualified.”

It is now believed the plan will go before the Oireachtas committee in the in the hope of being introduced next year.
