RSA issue a warning advising motorists to be extra careful this morning as heavy snowfall and icy conditions are expected

The Road Safety Authority have issued a warning this morning advising all motorists to check forecasts and to clear windows and mirrors before setting off on the country’s roads.

The national roads authority are also encouraging drivers to take a screen scraper and de-icer on their journeys. The RSA’s warning comes after Met Eirann said they were expecting heavy snowfall and icy conditions in the northern half of the country overnight

A spokesperson for the RSA said: “In snow and icy conditions manoeuvre gently, slow down and leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in front.” “Too much steering is bad and avoid harsh braking and acceleration. Use the highest gear possible to avoid wheel spin. Select a low gear when travelling downhill especially if through bends.”
