RSA said to be considering new proposals that will see those who earn more paying higher speeding fines

There could soon be change to the system that punishes motorists for speeding.

According to reports today The Road Safety Authority (RSA) are said to be considering new ruling that will see speeding offenders paying larger fines if they earn more.

Under the new proposals, the RSA say speeding fines would be issued on the basis of the driver’s income rather than the currently penalty of a standard fee.

The proposed move comes after transport authorities in the UK rolled out a similar operation this week.

Speaking about the future law an RSA spokesman said: “It’s at its very early stages yet. I can confirm that we won’t be submitting anything to the Department of Transport in the short-term / coming weeks. We are monitoring the situation in the UK and will consider our proposals after that.”
