RTE gender pay gap more than evident as figures show Ryan Tubridy is paid €200,000 more than his female counterpart Miriam O’Callaghan

The state broadcaster is about to face similar questioning as their British counterparts the BBC after the latest pay figures show that the top three earners at the company in 2015 were men.

In what has seemingly become the norm the issue of the pay gap between genders in the media is at a massive divide as figures show the highest paid man at RTE Ryan Tubridy earn almost €200,000 more than the highest paid woman at the company Miriam O’Callaghan.

According to the figures which were released Under the Freedom Information Act today, the Late Late Show and Radio One host Tubridy earned €495,000 in he year 2015 the same salary he received in 2014.

However the pay gap is more evident than ever as O’Callaghan earned €295,000 in 2015, which placed her behind other male presenters including Ray D’Arcy and Joe Duffy.

The whooping figures revealed that D’Arcy was the second highest paid presenter in 2015 after he earned €400,000.

Radio One presenter Joe Duffy was third on the list after he earned €389,988 in 2015.O’Callaghan was fourth on the list, with Marian Finucane taking fifthe after she earned €295,000 in 2015.

The pay divide is likely to face stiff questioning in the coming weeks ahead given the large gap in pay for presenters of the opposite sex, which could in turn lead to a fiasco similar to the one in Britain which has led to many female presenters at the BBC to voice their disapproval at a growing pay divide which has been labeled by some as sexist and unfair.
