The Director General of RTE, Dee Forbes has revealed the broadcaster is to cut some 200 jobs, around 10% of the workforce, through retirement and voluntary redundancy – presumably with very heavy gratuity packages.
She said she wants to make it a “smaller and more agile” operation.
She believes the Irish public are getting “incredible value” for the TV licence fee. They’re currently in talks to sell a property near the broadcaster for a gross of €75 million and the deal is said to take place within the next 18 months.
She’d didn’t mention the fact that RTE’s top 5 paid presenters get a collective salary of almost €1.8 million euro – do you think they’re worth it? Is Ryan Tubridy worth almost €10,000 a week do you think?
