A number of rural post offices around the country could soon be closed down as part if an cost cutting measure by An Post.
The news comes after the company’s chief executive David McRedmond appeared on Prime Time last night to express his concerns about the future operation of post offices nationwide.
Mr McRedmond, said if the company do not “make the necessary changes that are needed for the future … then the whole system will collapse.”
He also said the company have already identified 265 post offices that are “near no discernible area of population.”
The proposal for the closures comes after a recent report indicated that 265 post offices around the country are completely unviable.
