Locals are praising publicans in the small town of Newmarket, Co. Cork, who have collectively decide to keep their doors firmly closed on Good Friday irrespective of the recent legislative change to that respect.
Newmarket, population 976, will remain dry on Good Friday, as publicans and bar owners say that it’s only one of two days off a year, along with Christmas Day.
Pubs and bars everywhere else are expected to be open for business on Good Friday for the first time in 91 years.
