The Russian Ambassador to Ireland has issued a stark warning to the Irish Government following its decision to support the UK and other nations by expelling Russian Diplomats.

In a statement today Mr Yury Filatov said Ireland’s decision will not go unnoticed by the Russian Government.

Mr Filatov who was informed to leave his position at the Department of Foreign Affairs earlier today said the decision was completed unwarranted, senseless and deeply regrettable.

The Russian Ambassadors comments come after the Irish Government decided to pledge it’s support the UK, following the attempted murder of a former Russian spy with a deadly nerve agent in Salisbury England.

Announcing the Government’s decision this morning the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said Ireland have decided to expell Mr Filatov as part of an act of solidarity with the UK.

The news of Mr Filatov’s expulsion comes as number of other nations around the world have decided to banish Russian diplomats from their territories as part of a response to the deadly attack.
