Ryanair have been fined almost €2m by the Italian Competition Authority, after they failed to inform customers that flights were cancelled during last year’s pilot shortage.

The airliner who became international news last summer after 20,800 flights were immediately cancelled across Europe.

Although Ryanair are reviewing the fine, it is believed the Fine was issued by the authority as the company’s flight cancellations were not the result of unforeseeable causes or problems beyond the airline’s control.

The authority say the fine must be issued as the cancellation’s which affected in the region of 400,000 passengers across Europe, were the result of organisational and management problems.
