Ryanair lands itself in deeper hot water, after staff at East Midlands are told to relocate and work elsewhere at their own expense for the next 6 weeks

Ryanair is today weaving an even more tangled mess for itself, after informing staff at East Midlands that they must relocate to other bases with spare capacity, if they want to get paid over the next six weeks.

Staff must pay for hotels and meals during this period themselves, however.

East Midlands airport has reduced capacity over the winter months, which means that a number of staff are surplus. They can choose to work elsewhere, but at their own expense. Else, they will not get paid for the next six weeks, nor will they receive any statutory entitlement as they will be considered to have ‘turned down alternative work’, should they choose not to relocate.

Ryanair is currently reeling from a huge reputational damage incurred after the airline began to suddenly cancel up to 50 flights a day, due to gross misjudgement of pilots’ leave entitlements.
