Saoirse Ronan, Irish actress nominated for an Oscar (Brooklyn, 2015), will star in Hozier’s new video for the single Cherry Wine. The song, which tackles domestic violence and abusive relationships, was writen by the Wiclow rock star from a male’s perspective.

“Domestic violence is an ongoing issue in our society, the statistics of which are shocking and the effects of which damage whole families, communities and span generations,” said Hozier, who added that it is an honour to be joined by Ronan, director Dearbhla Walsh (who has worked for shows such as EastEnders and The Tudors) and Moe Dunford (actor who has appeared in Game of Thrones and Vikings).

The song was released today on iTunes and the video will be launched on Valentine’s Day, as part of a campaign to raise awareness and funds for those affected by domestic violence. The proceeds from the downloads of the song will go to several charities related to the subject.

“I am equally honoured to join Hozier to create awareness for the #FaceUpToDomesticViolence campaign”, comented Saoirse Ronan, who said that the song is one of her favourite tracks on Hozier’s album.
