SCAM WARNING: AIB warn customers of new phone scam tricking people into handing over their details

It appears it’s not just the Microsoft Windows scammers who are out and about this weather, AIB say a new type of phishing scam has started.

The bank has warned their customers to be on alert as two bogus scams orchestrated by fraudsters are currently doing the rounds.

In a public statement, AIB say they have been made aware of the scams which both attempt to trick customers into handing over their details.

It is understood one of the scams tries to encourage a customer to help with law enforcement officials by making a transaction in order for it to be tracked.

The would be fraudsters say they are working for a branch of an international agency such as Europol or Interpol and say they are currently on the search for a fraud gang who have been hacking people’s bank accounts.

Meanwhile the second scam apparently sees fraudsters asking customers for access to their computer saying they are working for a broadband company.

AIB say they never contact their customers via phone call or email and they never ask for customer details through those channels.

They are advising all customers who receive such a phone call never to hand over their personal details and those should who are contacted should notify AIB immediately.

People are asked to share this information with their friends and especially to make elderly friends, family and neighbours aware of this phishing scam.
