It has emerged this evening that 13 people who were given the all-clear at a bowel cancer screening later developed the disease, after colonoscopy results were not interpreted correctly.
All 13 cases occurred at Wexford General Hospital, and include one man who has since passed away from the disease.
All patients were taking part in BowelScreen, the national bowel screening programme for people aged 60 to 69.
The discovery prompted the recall of almost 600 people who had taken part in the programme.
