Irish Water siphons off money from various sources just as quick as drinking water leaks from the network the company is supposed to maintain.
In the latest Irish Water-related scandal, it has emerged that the company benefited from monies paid by Galway drivers through their motor taxation.
This deviation of funds emerges right at a time when many roads in County Galway have become largely impassable due to the recent wet and icy weather, Galway East Fianna Fáil TD Colm Keaveney, has alleged today.
Galway residents forked out over €64 million in motor tax in 2014, but it is alleged that a significant chunk of that amount ended up in the hands of Irish Water to ‘help’ cover its over-inflated set-up costs.
Mr. Keavney alleges that the fact this money was taken from the Galway County Council means that there was a significant shortfall in the funds required for road gritting and other essential maintenance.
