Scorching heat will give way to rain and blustery conditions over the weekend

It was never meant to last, was it. The few days of true summer-like weather came and went, and may never return for the rest of the summer.

Indeed, the scorching heat that caused temperatures to rise up to 29C in places over the last four days or so is now giving way to a more characteristic Irish summer.

Rain showers are expected tomorrow, Friday, some of them heavy in places. Saturday is expected to be the best of the lot, with some sunny spells and less in the way of rain. Wetter conditions are forecast for Sunday.

The good news is that it will remain relatively warm throughout, with temperatures hovering around the 20C mark at times.

The trend of unsettled weather is likely to continue into next week, so put the sun cream away for now.
