A scrap collector in Durban, South Africa has been praised after they managed to rescued a newborn baby wrapped inside a rubbish bag moments before a scheduled bin collection.
According to The Times Live, the baby weighing 4 pounds, 6 ounces, was rescued by the scrap collector after he heard cries coming from a nearby bin.
It is understood the baby boy is recovering in a hospital in Verulam, after he was treated for an infection.
Speaking about the incident authorities in Durban say they have adoption offers from people in the UK, Portugal and the USA.
They also say the baby was found inside a knotted plastic bag with the umbilical cord still attached.
However thankfully medics who arrived at the scene quickly say the baby was found to be injury free.
Police investigating the incident say they have since tracked the baby’s mother and she has been charged with Child Abandonment and Attempted Murder.
They added she was undergoing treatment for depression.
