The incident occured yesterday evening at 6 o clock in Mahanagh Drumshanbo Co Leitrim.
Gardai had pulled over a car that had refused to stop for them on August 16th.
Then a routine stop ans search became violent.
The individuals occupying the car became violent and even attempted to set a dog on the gardai on duty.
The car, a silver Ford had been stopped before as Gardai had been suspicious of the ownership details of the car.
One of the occupants of the car attacked gardai, by using pepper spray.
Two other men then proceeded to attack the gardai, throwing glass bottles, sticks and stones.
Gardai reinforcements arrived and proceeded to arrest one of the men while the Dog Support unit attempted to locate the other two individuals.
Two men are currently being detained and a third man is still being located.
Forensics are examining the scene.
