The number of managers within the beleaguered HSE has increased by 11% in the last four years, while the amount of nurses performing front line duties decreased by almost 3% in the same period.

This revelation has reportedly eroded nurses’ morale.

Sources within the HSE attempted to justify the imbalance by explaining that it has been the result of the Haddington agreement and normal promotions. They added that the amount of senior staff has actually fallen 8.4% since its 2007 peak.

But in a statement this afternoon, general secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organization Liam Doran has said that an immediate review of the HSE’s organizational reform is called for.
