It is a grossly shameful indictment of successive governments in this country when homelessness figures have risen by a stunning 24% in just the last 12 months.
While politicians spread far and wide across the globe on their self-righteous holidays, almost 8,000 men, women, and children are currently homeless in the country they are supposed to be in charge of.
Charities like Focus Ireland are warning that homelessness is on the rise here, and shows no signs of abating anytime soon. Seventy eight families became homeless in Dublin during the month of June alone, for instance.
The Government has achieved nothing other than evading paying their overdue bills at the Dáil bar.
