A 10-year-old girl has been taken in custody and charged with the intentional first degree homicide of a six-month old baby at a daycare centre.
The case which has sent shockwaves throughout the US and the world has come to light after the horrific incident occurred in the town of Wheaton in Wisconsin, on October 30th.
According to the Chippewa Sheriff’s Department, the young girl was arrested after they responded to call alerting them that a 6-month-old baby boy was heavily bleeding and was unresponsive at a local daycare.
It is believed that the young infant who later died at the Gillette Hospital in St Paul, sustained serious head injuries after the young girl dropped him whilst holding him.
Police investigating the incident say the girl confessed to the killing after they took four people including three children and one adult in for questioning.
Following a series of questioning it is reported that the young girl informed police that she had killed the baby boy by repeatedly stamping on his head.
The claimed that she decided to stamp on the baby’s head after he wouldn’t stop crying from the fall which also seen him hit his head off the foot of a stool.
Officers investigating the case say they decided to charge the young girl after a coroner’s report concluded that the baby died as a result of severe head trauma caused by both the fall and the repeated kicking by the young girl.
It is reported that the girl has been held on a $50,000 bond and she is currently being held in care after she went through the adult courts system.
Although police say the investigation into the infant’s death is continuing, it is not yet currently known whether or not any of the staff working at the daycare will face charges.
