11 taxi drivers returning to Johannesburg from the funeral of a colleague in Kwa-Zulu Natal have been shot dead in am ambush attack.
The Gauteng taxi association drivers were in a minibus driving along the R74 when a number of gunmen ambushed them and shot them dead on at the scene.
According to CNN, the National commissioner of police Khehla Sitole said: “Preliminary reports indicate that the 11 were among 17 people coming from a funeral… Four victims were critically injured and taken to hospital while two survived unscathed”.
“We will await for the investigation to advance before speculating on a motive,”Mr Sitole said.
A major police investigation and manhunt has gotten underway.
