An extensive investigation is underway after a patient tragically managed to commit suicide in the emergency department of Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown at the weekend.
The female patient was found dead early on Sunday morning after all psychiatric beds were occupied due to the department being extremely busy at the time.
The woman is said to have not been considered a suicide risk and was waiting for a lift home after being placed on the discharge list.
Staff tried to resuscitate the woman but sadly she had passed away.
Both the HSE and Gardai are investigating the tragedy in separate investigations.
