Shocking: Concerned woman verbally abused by mother who left her toddler inside a sweltering hot car whilst she went shopping

In a truly shocking and appalling story in the UK a 60 year old woman was subjected to a barrage of verbal abuse after she became concerned about the welfare of a toddler who was left in a boiling hot car whilst their mother was shopping at a local supermarket.

The remarkable but appalling story comes after Whitehaven, Cumbria, resident 60 year old Dorothy Martin discovered the infant whilst on a routine shopping trip recently.

The woman who showed her human decency was was shown no kindness after she confronted the childs mother who was in the supermarket for 25 minutes whilst her young child was sitting in the front seat of the Fiat car in temperatures that soared above 25c.

Speaking about the shocking case of neglect the retired cook Dorothy told Metro.co.uk that she was deeply concerned for the infant given the sweltering heat on that particular day.

The caring resident explained: “I was shocked. The little lad was asleep through the whole incident. What if the child was locked in the car? He wasn’t even strapped in.”

“The sun was shining on his little face God bless him. It doesn’t bear thinking about. Anybody could have taken that child out or driven that car away.”

Dorothy also revealed that another concerned citizen also tried to help the young child by pushing his hand through the partially opened window to flip down the sun visor.

Dorothy explained: “Nobody expected the woman to be over 20 minutes. I could have phoned the police. I’m just pleased it wasn’t an hour because it was a very hot day.”

Speaking about when the mother returned, she said: “I told her that she shouldn’t have a child if she looks after them like that.”

“Then she started shouting at me and she was very irate. I think it was embarrassment. She called me a ‘busy body’ but I’ve got broad shoulders.”

Meanwhile in a response to Dorothy’s claims the child’s mother said she didn’t do anything wrong and only left her child for about 9 minutes.
