Gardaí in Cork have launched an investigation today after the body of a homeless woman was found on a street in the city this morning.
It is understood the woman who was aged in her 40s, was found sleeping rough in the Anderson Quay area of the city at approximately 11am this morning.
Gardai say they are not treating the woman’s death as suspicious but they have said they are investigating the cause of her death.
The woman’s body has since been transferred to Cork University Hospital were a post-mortem examination will take place.
Her death is part of a worrying trend as eight people have died whilst sleeping rough on the nations streets since August.
