According to latest figures released by the Department of Housing it is now believed that there over 7,000 people currently homeless in Ireland.
The latest figures which were released this week show that there are now more people without a home than ever before. The department say of the 7,000 people accounted for, nearly 2,500 are children.
The report which was compiled for the month of December is now inline with figures previously suggested by a number of homeless advocacy groups including Focus Ireland and The Peter McVerry trust.
Both charities have recently called on the government to take further action towards the issue which they say is becoming worse everyday.
