In a surprising UN report it has been revealed that women are the majority of human traffickers in a third of the 155 nations the surveyed by the international organisation.
Over 60% of people convicted for human trafficking in recent years in Eastern Europe and Central Asia were found to be women as were most of their victims.
“Women commit crimes against women, and in many cases the victims become the perpetrators,” Antonio Maria Costa, director of the Vienna-based U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime, said in an interview according to Fox News.
US President Trump initiate an unprecedented crackdown on human trafficking and sees the scope of this crime as justification for this strengthening of border patrols and security.
