Shocking: New report reveals a sharp increase of child admissions to hospitals due to alcohol usage

According to newly published report there was a sharp increase in teenage admissions to Temple Street Children’s Hospital due to alcohol related incidents last year.

The new report which was released under the freedom of information act found that the number of teenagers being admitted to the hospital last year for alcohol intake last year rose significantly from 2015.

The detailed report found that in total 21 teenagers between the ages of 13-17 were treated at the hospital after consuming a large quantity of alcohol.

The alarming figures come after a previous report found that alcohol usage amongst teens was at an all time low during the year 2015.

The report states that of the 21 cases, 13 of those involved were aged 15, six were aged 14, and two were 13.

It also states the three major children’s hospitals in the capital reported 64 cases of alcohol related incidents in the year 2016, marking an increase of 13 from the previous year.

The latest figures has now led to children’s advocacy groups across the country calling for stricter policies when it comes to the advertising of alcoholic beverages, with many claiming the current glamorisation of drink within Irish culture is the leading cause of alcohol usage amongst young teenagers.
