An unnamed teacher is at the centre of a major investigation after it was revealed that she purposely sellotaped the mouths of five young children shut during a lesson.
The investigation whic is being held at the first teachers fitness practice meeting this week comes after the allegations were reported a number of years ago.
According to RTE News the alleged incident occurred back in 2012 when when the accused was brought in to teach a class of eleven pupils at a public school.
The conference which also heard testimony from the children who are now aged in their mid teens, say they are taking the allegations very seriously.
In a detailed review of the allegations the conference were told that the accused told the five boys to sellotape the girls mouths shut in order for them to stop talking.
However when one of the boys refused to do so she proceeded to cellotape his mouth shut along with the six girls in the class.
The boy who provided testimony also revealed that on the day in question all of the students involved were messing and talking which ultimately angered the accused. He also recalled of how they were affected by the incident saying many of the children in the class were left crying and with red marks on their face.
However the accused has since denied any wrong doing in the case and said she was only messing when she decided to tape the children’s mouths shut.
She also said that she was under a great deal of stress at the time and has since refused to address the council even though she was confronted about the allegations a number of years ago.
