Local councillor Joanna Byrne posted this shocking image to her Facebook page this afternoon depicting the true extent of the water crisis that has hit the town of Drogheda, Co Louth.

Water has remained turned off for the majority of the town and its nearby townslands and villages since early Friday afternoon.

A burst water pipe some 12 feet underground at the mains has caused havoc across the town.

Our Lady Of Lourdes hospital is the only facility to have water supplied from outside the town during the emergency.

Residents and businesses have been forced to wash their hands in bottled water and flush their toilets with bottled water.

Tesco, Lidl and Aldi have all reportedly sold out their entire supplies of bottled water this afternoon.

Water.ie claim the situation would he resolved at 2pm today but many people say they’ve been told 7pm with no guarantee it will end there.
