Inspectors at the ISPCA have launched an investigation today after a distressed abondened Yorkshire Terrier pup was found locked inside a ziplock plastic bag in Co Longford.

The investigation comes after the poor defenceless dog was discovered inside the bag by a member of the public in Derryharrow Co Longford.

Although thankfully the heroic member of the public managed to cut a hole into the bag in order for the dog to breath, ISPCA inspectors have said they were horrified to discover what had happened to the dog when they arrived.

It is understood the little dog named Louis sustained no serious injuries during the terrifying ordeal and he is now being cared for at The National Animal Centre for rehabilitation.

The ISPCA say they hope to find the loveable little dog a new home once he has fully recovered from his ordeal.

Meanwhile ISPCA inspectors currently investigating the incident have urged anyone with any information to contact the National Animal Cruelty Helpline in confidence on 1890 515 515
