A significant amount of staff currently working at Portlaoise Hospital could face disciplinary hearings according to the Director General of the HSE.
The Director General Tony O’Brien made the announcement before the Oireachtas Health Committee yesterday evening, the purposely setup committee is conducting a review into HIQA’s critical report into baby deaths at the Midlands Regional Hospital.
It is understood four staff members are already facing fitness to practice inquiries. Mr O’Brien has claimed that more staff may be held accountable for their actions within the next three months.
Mr O’Brien told the committee: “There are now others who will be subject to the disciplinary investigation process, the terms of reference for which will be published this week.” “Probably by this day next week everyone will be aware of those terms of reference and the individuals who will be charged with leading them.”
