Simon Harris officially cancels St Patrick’s Day trip due to the ongoing trolley crisis at the country’s hospitals

The Minister for Health Simon Harris has confirmed that he will not be travelling to the Netherlands and Belgium this St Patrick’s Day weekend due to the current overcrowding crisis at the country’s hospitals.

Minister Harris who was expected to travel later this weekend said that it wouldn’t be right given that all hospital staff across the country are working tirelessly during the crisis.

In a tweet published this evening Minister Harris said he wouldn’t feel right as countless people are “working extraordinarily hard to make progress in what is a difficult week”.

Mr Harris added: “I am in regular contact with HSE. It would not feel right to me as Minister to travel for St Patrick’s Day so I have made decision not to do so.”

It is understood the Health Minister made the decision after INMO published figures today showing that there are currently 649 people across the country waiting on a bed.
