Sinn Fein claim they will build 100,000 social and affordable homes if they are elected next spring

The Sinn Féin party have claimed they will build 100,000 social and affordable homes by 2030 if they are elected into the next Government.

The announcement ones as the party will officially announce its housing policy named “Better 4 Housing’,it is believed that Gerry Adams and his colleagues aim to have 36,500 homes built within the entire term if they are elected. The party say its main goal is to build a large number of council and housing agency homes from 2016 onwards. The party also claim they will provide an extra €2.2 billion in capital spending along with current government funding in order to build homes.

Sinn Fein say the best way to achieve funding is “through direct exchequer funding to begin with and a combination of direct capital spending and local authority borrowing as the plan progresses”. They also say “Estates will include both income mix and a mixture of social rental tenants, cost rental tenants, cost purchase owner-occupiers, sheltered housing and independent living units.”
